Where memory becomes matter, and transformation becomes form.

Portrait of Cie Blauwsen in black and white

My practice begins from an inquiry into human experience and the ways in which what happens to us can transform us without fully determining who we are. I am interested in how, faced with wounds, losses and the circumstances that reshape our lives, we find new ways of existing, of relating and of carrying on.

I work through research, sensitivity and experimentation with printmaking, sculpture, garment and matter. I explore materials, processes and behaviours to uncover possibilities that are not always evident at first sight. In them I find a correspondence with the human: a material can respond in different ways depending on the conditions around it, just as our experiences can change us and, at the same time, open up other possibilities.

The stories running through my work are approached through listening and accompaniment. I do not seek to speak for others or to appropriate their experiences, but to come close to them with respect and to build spaces where they can be recognised with dignity.

I understand art as a form of research and of encounter. I do not seek to make work for its appearance alone, but to develop processes that can hold questions, make certain experiences visible and generate recognition. I am interested in what remains after what has been lived, and the new forms that can arise from it.
