Biography

Cie Blauwsen is a multidisciplinary artist, designer and creative director born in Lima, Peru. Her practice brings together art, design and research through printmaking, sculpture, installation, experimental photography and garment, exploring the expressive and conceptual possibilities of different visual languages and materials.

A graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Bellas Artes del Perú, where she specialised in Printmaking and received the Class of 2025 Medal, she also holds complementary training in Advertising Graphic Design, Art Direction, Curatorship, Contemporary Art Exhibition Management, and Fashion Design, Production and Technology.

Her artistic research addresses questions of identity, territory, belonging, memory and human struggles. From a keen and sensitive observation, she finds in human stories and experiences the core from which she builds her research and practice. Through interpretation, she avoids literal representation in order to construct her own readings through visual language, matter and processes of transformation. Her work explores how these experiences can be translated into forms, structures and material languages capable of generating new relations of meaning.

Research is a transversal axis of her creative process, in which concept, matter and form come together in the making of each work. From printmaking to sculpture, installation and garment, she experiments with the limits and possibilities of each medium, understanding material processes not only as technical procedures but as an active part of the work's conceptual construction.

In parallel, she develops projects in creative direction, design and cultural management, through which she explores the relationships between different disciplines and forms of visual production.

Statement
My practice begins from an inquiry into human experience and the ways in which what happens to us can transform us without fully determining who we are.
